Time for a coolant change on a D1-20 Bavaria 30. The drain on the heat exchanger is as expected - a little black plastic spigot that you pop a hose on and turn to drain the coolant. But the manual says also do the same on the starboard side of the block to drain that - but this is just a square headed plug not a drain cock as per the manual. This is lower than the drain on the heat exchanger so i ned to do this to get all the old coolant out. Does anyone else have a plug rather than a proper drain cock and has anyone retro-fitted a drain, seems they are around £10 but the sting is that you need an adapter which is another £90. Pic attached of block plug.

If it's accessible you can just remove the plug and drain it that way. It'll all land in the bilge but shouldn't be too messy to mop up....On replacement you could put a little thread sealant on the plug to prevent any future leakage....Bill.

Spooky!  I've literally just come on here to post exactly the same question.

Had a look at the weekend but didn't seem obvious so thanks for reassurance.  Mines just a plug like in your photo.  Looks like it's going to go everywhere...

There is not a lot of volume in the lower part and it is unlikely to rush out because usually there is a build up of deposits behind the plug. One of the reasons why a drain tap is not used because they bung up and are pigs to clear.
