Hello everyone,
The teak on the deck of my 2001 Bavaria 40 sailing yacht has deteriorated so badly that it's starting to dig into our feet. I'm considering replacing it with synthetic (EVA) teak. Does anyone have experience with this? Where can I find teak decking for a 2001 Bavaria 40 sailing yacht?

Yngmar

We tried some EVA foam on the cockpit steps. It disintegrated in 2 years of Med sun and just kind of washed away as microplastic dust. The remaining adhesive was extremely difficult to get off.

Teak decking is very silly so I'd just get rid of it entirely. There's several threads here about doing just that and restoring the original non-skid gelcoat underneath, or covering it with something else. Use the search.

I also would not consider any type of foam as it will not last long as Yngmar already describes.
Nowadays there are good teak alternatives to be ordered. Google terms like "flexiteek" will guide you to providers in your area. They will template your deck and have it make, exactly tailored to your boat. Same beddingcompound as your teak deck and vacuum suction it to your hull.
I had it done with our previous 1990's Bavaria with original teak and aside some replacement of the fillings between the wood it lasted for 25 years till we sold the boat. Just saw the boat recently and it is still on....

Having the same model and vintage I see Your problem... luckily we only have original cockpit teak, the deck has been teak-covered later by professional yard way better than the Bavaria original plywood-teak-combo. Our cockpit teak is starting to peel of in two places - and this is in Baltic uv-exposure (or non-exposure).

Just a suggestion for one alternative brand we are considering for our cockpit: Isoteak
