DuraDeck...

How does DuraDeck perform? Is it non-slip? Is it easy to keep clean? Does it maintain its colour longer-term? Any experiences to share?

Talking to the berth holder next to my yacht admiring his newish deck, and asked him his honest opinion, looks great, but DO NOT WALK ON IT WITHOUT FOOTWEAR! it gets so hot it will burn your feet and heats up the cabins below. "Much better off with teak as opposed to man made plastic/resin type decking." So thats his opinion, my opinion looks great, and probably ok in UK SUMMERS.

Thanks, Ray. I'd be looking at a UK-based boat, so sunshine wouldn't be a big problem! Was really interested about grip, appearance, maintenance.

googled DuraDeck and can't find anything suitable for boat decks. Is it a fake teak like Tek Dek?

It's Bavaria's optional fake teak deck. You'll find it in the Bavaria options lists. It may well be a proprietary product which they have branded DuraDeck.

Looks like extruded plastic fake teak. A number of different brands on the market such as Flexiteek, Dek King, Tek Dek and Tiflex. All very similar but variations in the extrusion, exact composition of the plastic and method of laying. Would imagine Bavaria are having it made in preformed panels which are glued onto the deck.

Advantages claimed over teak are that it does not fade or stain and easy to clean - as well as being environmentally friendl(ier). Seems durable - has been around for more than 10 years. However, as said it is very hot underfoot and probably not so good in a hot climate.

Have not seen their prices but would guess around 25-30% cheaper than teak.

Not a bargain, then! Obviously hoping the low maintenance will sell it. Big profit booster for them.
