Bavaria 40 (2001 ) model does anyone on here got or had one what have you had to repair/ replace inside or out what are the bits to watch for

Have a 37 of same year. Only two exterior weak points are stanchions - particularly the bases if they are fabricated Stainless like mine, and hatches. The original Rutgerson coachroof hatches leaked badly but should have been replaced under warranty. The windows can also leak if not closed fully and the trim strips inside fall off and  difficult to get replacements. Cabin lights are fragile if used heavily, but seem OK on private boats. Original cookers are rubbish and the gas installation does not meet current standards. If you have a Lofrans windlass check that the base is not corroded where it sits on the rubber pad.

Thanks for that ill have a look next time im at the boat

I have this model in the 2 cabin version.
Yes agree check staunchion bases for crazing of the gelcoat ( stress) and leaks.
The base of my Lofrans Cayman winch was so corroded thanks to the thoughtful rubber well which keeps the aluminium in a permanent bath of sea water... outstanding design that! Solution is to make a polypropylene gasket about 12mm thick ( plastic cutting board cheap and effective) and insert that underneath and paint the bottom of the winch to arrest further corrosion.
Steering can get very tight due to the equally inspired use of aluminum outer stern tube and bearings made of a plastic that engorges in sea water.... seriously Nobel prize material that!
Decking in cockpit area a disaster in sunlight... who would have thought.... the teak strips are ok, but the black comes off on clothing... no white pants allowed here!
Acrylic mirrors in bathrooms hate moisture..... who would have anticipated that? And as mentioned the inner window trims are only held on by a lacklustre comb type non velcro.

BUT, they perform beautifully... a good sea hull.

Further reinforcement regarding the anchor windlass corrosion bath caused by the rubber seating pad. We did the same -  replaced with hard plastic gasket.

We also sadly had the corroded rudder bearing housing issue. Fixed that by having a stainless replacement machined and fitted.

I also have some crazing starting to appear around the base of one of the stantions. Any commenst on how best to approach that repair?
