Hi all,

I have just installed the above charger to improve the output of the Valeo 60A alternator (standard on the MD22L-B engine). The connection is indeed simple as I just had to switch the cables from the battery isolator to the AtoB charger.

But there is still the yellow cable from the battery to the regulator inside the alternator. I'm not sure if I can leave it in place. It works, but I'm worried if the regulator would interfere with the AtoB charger.

Is there anybody out there who solved this problem. Grateful for any advice!

Joe

The Sterling A2B manual clearly tells you this:

QuoteImportant: If your alternator has got its own battery voltage sense wire, then this has
to be removed from the battery terminal and should be connected to the alternator's
own B+ output instead. This will prevent contradictory regulation between the
alternator and the alternator-to-battery charger

You need to remove the wire from the battery and put it onto the alternator, to make it "alternator sensing" rather than "battery sensing".

Thanks for your support.

I tried to disconnect the yellow cable from the battery and connect it to the B+ terminal but the alternator did not start. Moreover, also the lamps of the engine panel had been switched off.

According to the manual a cable should be connected from the key switch to the starter solenoid terminal to provide for a few seconds voltage to fire up the alternator but I suppose the problem of unlit engine panel remains.

Maybe this is a very specific problem with the MD22 engine and therefore the question if someone successfully installed the Sterling AtoB charger.

I had an MD22 engine and had no such problems with the A to B charger.
