Hi Has anybody got the operating instructions for the radios fitted 2000.  it is a BLAUPUNKT   PASADENS DJ.  It sort of works but the screen has gone, and more importantly what does the DSC button do.

Symphony

You can download the manual from the net. Just Google the model.

Not sure what DSC means but nothing to do with DSC on VHF.

Hi, Unless you are keen on keeping your boat in an original state it would certainly not pay you to spend any money on your 20 year old motorcar type radio.
For as little as a hundred euro you can buy a full feature modern car radio with all the bells and whistles

My radio is not that model. I think that is more modern. It's also Blaupunkt but with CD player. The problem is that it doesn't have Bluetooth and my kids cannot play their horrible music.😜
Did anyone change the original for a newer model with Bluetooth?

Yngmar

They're all standard car radios, single DIN size, so swapping it for a modern one is as simple as swapping a car radio - and there's tons of video instructions on that if you've never done it.

I've fitted one with Bluetooth, USB and MP3 in the early days, but removed it again later as it wasn't getting any use. Turns out the Bose Soundlink Mini 2 is much more useful!

DSC is Digital Selective Calling, which is an emergency distress signal launched from registered units and received in N. America by the Coast Guard.  So perhaps it's something only useful for this part of the globe.

DSC in this case means digital software control. Google found the manual

Ours is very similar and the screen also failed (several years ago), but we've kept it because it has an excellent sound system and speakers.
It also has the benefit of a 4.5mm jack socket in the front, so we just connect my iPhone to it and use the local internet or data 3/4G to listen to the radio or Spotify etc...
It was never really much good as a FM/AM radio anyway, but connected to the 'phone it's excellent...Bill.

Buy the kids headphones. ;D

Just if someone is interested in this thread I found a couple of models with CD player and Bluetooth. They are also water resistant, although in the place where we have the radio it's supposed we don't need to be water resistant I don't mind to pay extra for that feature.
Boss Marine MR762 BRGB
Boss MR508uab

Now I have to look for my headphones 🎧😜

I'm not being facetious here, but due to the nature of the majority, if not all radio/stereo installations high up in the internal joinery of a yacht...
If you actually required the benefits of 'Water Resistance'...It's rather too late.................

Ailatan

The previous owner didn't lock one of the portlights properly, as a result rain water got in and ruined all the electronics underneath it, including battery chargers.
Now my battery chargers are water resistant 😉.
Moral of the story, on a boat, always put yourself in the worst case scenario

I will just interject and say that if you do decide to buy a new stereo avoid the Fusion system now owned by Garmin.  It was on our boat when purchased and is frequently found at marine purveyors.  It's an overpriced and underdelivered kit.  Quizzical user interface and limited ancillary connection options.  It was a good option a while back for isolating 2-4 "rooms" of sound, but there are other brand options around now.

Thanks for the advice

To add to this thread: I recently replaced my radio on the Bav 40 with one from Amazon. It was €19 only, is half the depth of the original car radios and has Bluetooth, AUX in, 4x15W Amp out, a remote control, and comes with installation adaptor cables.
It's been a while since I last bought a standard car radio but man, was I surprised how cheap and small they've become :-)

Now €30 - still good price: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0B27D63QT?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Been looking on Amazon and eBay....
How do they do it..??
Whereas Force 4 can offer you a 'Fusion' unit that will do the same job at TEN times the price....
A genuine 'no brainer'......Bill.

I've just installed one of these Stereo radios,....
An unbelievable £14.00 and £2.40 delivery from a Chinese exporter on eBay...

The power and sound quality is superb..
It's a much better FM radio than the old one..
A remote control..(IR)
Or use your smart phone to control it if you're not 'line of sight' (Bluetooth)
Choose various display colours to match those on your control panel... (ours are green)
It'll accept SD cards and Flash Drives...
It'll also charge your 'phone...
Use Bluetooth to play iTunes/Spotify etc from your 'phone.....
The power consumption is a fraction of the old Aiwa ( it doesn't heat up )

Thanks for the heads up Krumelur......
